Bike Shop in a Box gives schools high-interest, scalable options classes that provides students an introduction to hands-on mechanics and a STEM-based shop program. The program can be customized to provide a CTS credit course or a CTF program of study.

I've been a teacher at Calgary Academy for 15 years, and this training has transformed my teaching by emphasizing achievable skill segmentation. The hands-on approach engages students and caters to various learning styles. The unique, safe, and practical science units for Grades 6–9 make this program one that students eagerly anticipate daily, supporting success for every learner.

As a teacher and rider, implementing the Bike Shop in a Box program at Tanbridge Academy has allowed me to integrate a personal passion into my teaching. Through this program, students gain bicycle literacy, learning how components work and can be fixed, replaced, and cleaned. I wish I had developed these skills in school, and as a teacher, I am excited to pass them down to our students.

We'd like to recognize Lanny Donde for his incredible support in creating our “Tune and Create” program. Through this program, students at Tanbridge Academy have learned bike mechanics, donated bikes to families in need, and built their own longboards. This unique approach has strengthened their technical skills, sparked creativity, and fostered a sense of accomplishment.

Lanny Donde has been a Calgary Academy teacher for almost 25 years, teaching grades 7-12. He established the CA Cycle program at the school in 2005, and has since grown it and transitioned it to another teacher. He is an avid cyclist, and is committed to sharing the knowledge of bikes and bike mechanics to schools and students across Canada.
